I started this business because I am passionate about learning, CPR, and the American Red Cross. I was first trained at age 13 in the babysitter training series and saved enough money through babysitting to send myself overseas when I was 16 – an incredible experience! Also at age 16, I began donating blood for the American Red Cross as an excuse to get out of my high school classes (who, me?) but it became so much more than that. I learned after his death, that my dad was a Red Cross blood donor. Every time I donate it reconnects me to him, even after all these years. I am now working on my 7th gallon donation! I hope to hit 10 someday. My dad died of a cardiac arrest before AEDs were readily available, and early treatment may have saved his life. I have been in many situations where my Red Cross Training has been so useful: a scientific diver (PADI Certified), a project manager (OSHA certified), a volunteer for medical and community clinics, a caregiver, and a pharmacist in both hospital and community roles. I have been certified with the American Red Cross for over 30 year and the skills I maintain prepare me for these roles and so much more. So when I named the company Heart and Mind, it is because my heart and mind are dedicated to responding to emergencies and promoting initiatives of the American Red Cross.
